Setting up

  1. You need an aviation audio recording cable. We mainly test with the NFlightCam Audio Recording Cable, which comes in USB-C, Lightning and 3.5 mm versions; choose the one that fits your iPhone or iPad's port. Other compatible cables may also work.
  2. Plug the cable into the aircraft's headset jacks as usual, your headset into one output, and the other output into your iPhone or iPad. Your device now hears what you hear.
  3. To hear replays in your headset, pair it over Bluetooth if it has it, or run an aux cable from the device to the headset's aux input. With neither, replays play on the device speaker.
  4. Open Class Delta and open "Audio" on the recorder. It shows the recording input and the say-again output. The input should be your cable: "Automatic (cable first)" picks it once it is plugged in, otherwise choose it from the list. For the output pick "Headphones or Bluetooth" if the headset is connected, or "Speaker" if not. The "Say again" line confirms where replays will play.
  5. Add your aircraft under "Your aircraft" (tail number and the type word the tower uses, "Skyhawk", "Cirrus", etc.), and start recording before you call for taxi.

What the alert can and cannot do

  • The alert shows about a second and a half into a call that uses your tail number, its short form, or your telephony callsign if you set one.
  • It can miss a call, most often when the controller is fast or the frequency is noisy.
  • It can fire on another aircraft whose callsign sounds like yours.
  • After an update the app needs a few minutes to get ready on the device. It shows when it is.

It is an aid to your own listening, not a replacement for it. Keep listening to the radio.

Your recordings

Recordings stay on your device unless you turn on "Upload to cloud". With it on, finished flights upload over Wi-Fi after you sign in and agree to the cloud terms. From the flight list you can remove a flight from the device, delete it from the cloud, or delete it everywhere. Deleting your account in Settings removes everything. The privacy policy says what is kept and for how long.

Reporting a problem

Email what happened, the time, and the airport. If the app missed or wrongly flagged a call and the flight is uploaded, say which flight and I can look at the exact transmission. If the recording itself has a problem, "Share" in the player sends the flight as one audio file.
